Well just around the corner actually. Behind the houses there's an old field I can remember playing there and trying to catch lizards when I was 3 to 4 years old and that's a loooong time ago but hey. Some years back the council put in a football field skate park and exercise equipment nice footpaths and built a community centre then creatively named it The Backies. They did leave a piece of rough grass planted with wild flowers just cut once a year and plant a few trees not many. But this field if you know is quite fruitful, right now the cherry plum trees are fruiting there cherry sized plums. Very nice too. A little later on the football field will pop with field and horse mushrooms also lots of common puffballs all tasty too and last but not least one of the original hedgerows usually produces plenty of sloes. Almost none of this bounty is gathered. The first photo here is a vetch not sure which and my little cherry plums. by IAN ROBINSON, on Flickr cherry plum by IAN ROBINSON, on Flickr

Any more photos of the vetch, Ian? Whole plant, leaf + more flowers would be useful for ID.

Not Lucerne. Would say it's Crown Vetch, Securigera varia.

The trifoliate leaflets with mucronate point suggest Lucerne is most likely. I'm used to seeing a deeper purple form but there can be quite a variation in petal colour.

When I first saw it I didn't think Crown Vetch was quite right but then I'd never seen Lucerne this colour + wasn't convinced it was that, but you may be right.
