At my previous home we were almost totally over-run with snails, if we wet out at night onto the patio around a pond, you crunched through snails and they were all up the post that had the bird feeders. I never thought I would see the day when I would get excited actually seeing a snail! In the 11 years I have been here this is only the 2nd one I have seen, albeit very small. We don't get that sort of snail in our garden, but I have come across them in woodland areas before. They don't seem to be as destructive as the common brown sort we have, (or maybe our snails are just especially voracious. According to Wikipedia they are called Grove Snails (Cepaea nemoralis) and can vary quite a lot in the colour and widths of their bands. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grove_snail
