Had two parakeets on the feeding station today- haven't seen these in the garden in a while. It's a shame the squirrel-proofing means they weren't able to get to anything... I've got another peanut feeder I'll put out in the hopes they come back. Parakeets May2017 by Wabi Gallery, on Flickr

I get them everyday- often dominating the hearts.

We have the same problem, Rowan. Without the cages the squirrels would eat all the sunflower hearts (and destroy bits of the feeder too) but the odd parakeets that arrive in the garden can't get enough of themselves through the cages to feed. We don't get many in the garden but they are pretty much a daily sighting.
I don't know if they have an impact on native birds but they are a very colourful, if noisy, addition.
However, although they are ever present here they are not in the much larger numbers that occur in other areas; perhaps I'd feel different if they were.
