I'm still amazed when I look out and see finches at the bottom of the garden... after living here for over five years without having any, it's lovely to see them. After nearly giving up on the nyger seed feeder, (it used to hang untouched until the seeds began to sprout) we've gone from no finches to suddenly having a half-dozen or so goldfinches out there regularly. I've even put up a second feeder so there's plenty of perches to go around, but this morning there was still one swinging about on the clothes line waiting for a turn. 01 Three Finches by Wabi Gallery, on Flickr 02 Two Finches by Wabi Gallery, on Flickr 03 Goldfinch on the Line by Wabi Gallery, on Flickr

Plenty of Goldfinches in my garden too. They love the sunflower hearts + usually get on that feeder first thing. They can certainly hold their own with the bigger House Sparrows but have to move off once the parakeets come down. Then they use the nyger (which they had ignored for ages). Get a few Greenfinches but these prefer the black sunflower seed. Noted one pair today + the male was particularly bright.
Sadly haven't had a Chaffinch in the garden for years + they have declined locally.

I have hundreds of them and boy do they get through the seed, think they breed exceptionally well in Scotland. Much to my delight I too have had a few goldfinches make an appearance recently - rarely seen here. Been worried about the Greenfinch think they did not fair well at last breeding. what has also done exceptionally well has been the coal tits - never seen so many here.
