does fox poo look like cat poo? I found some dark brown pieces, looked like hair in them. My camera was having trouble with the cold so I couldn't take a photo but it did remind me of cat poo. I suppose cats could visit my allotment . . I have rats and toads for definite

You would certainly know if it was fox. Very smelly and for some reason dogs when they fine it, seem to want to roll in it - pong! "Fox •Vary depending on what the fox has eaten. Like a small dog dropping, especially in urban areas where they eat a lot of meat, bread and bird seeds. •Frequently twisted at one end, especially in rural areas where foxes eat more birds and mammals. •When fresh, best distinguished by a very characteristic ‘foxy’ smell."

Hair in the poo is interesting and suggests a wild animal rather than a domestic one. The look of fox poo varies quite a bit in urban areas. It can be anything from a slimy goo to, as above, like the poo of a small dog and twisted at the end. Most of the fox poo I find tends to be black.
However if you have foxes visiting your allotment (and I think it very likely) it would be obvious. They scent mark a lot and the smell is strong.
If you can get a photo of it would help.

thanks for the replies. Not having knowingly smelled fox, I may not recognise it, even if it is strong. If the poo is still there next time I visit I will look for a twisted end. I didn't notice it until I was leaving so may have kicked it before hand - it was just sitting on some black plastic.(I have a lot of black plastic! ). I did notice a smell while I was weeding but wondered if that was rat, as there was a long rat run under the plastic I had removed to get at the weeds. Good old urban wildlife . Thinking about it, it is more likely to have been rotting apples though, as it was quite sweet.
