The parents seem to have disappeared, (they seem to do that around this time of year) as have two of the three fledglings, but this one is still about. It comes several times a day to the mesh tray I put out with mealworms and suet pellets...if I cover it to keep the sparrows from eating everything it will sit patiently until I realise it's there and go out and uncover the dish for it. It was quite careful today, after a sparrowhawk flew through the garden...it would sit staring up at overhead planes, as though just making sure those dodgy flying things weren't going to come any closer. I hope it stays around until it gets some adult plumage, (although it is pretty with the speckles) because I'm curious to see if it's going to be a male or female. got a surprise with one of my fledglings this morning, it was digging up in one of the borders and a fledgling robin flew down, the blackbird went for the robin, which just moved a bit further away so the blackbird chased it away, it was almost "this is my patch shoo"

Mine is a bit timid- gets bullied by the sparrows all the time. He (or she) was sunning today, all fluffed up the way that they do. Sunning Fledgling by Wabi Gallery, on Flickr
