Thanks, that is reassuring. Maybe it's the way his hip bones are jutting out... and it's not an angle I've photographed many frogs from, since I usually see them half-submerged in the pond.

very please with today's sighting... I was looking into the pond for tadpoles, trying to see how many might still be lurking about and saw an elongated, rather thin froglet swim across an open patch. was thinking that's a very skinny tad when I realised it was actually a young newt.
It had vanished before I had time to run in and get the camera... but it does mean there is a new generation of newts in the pond!

This small-ish newt in the pond feeding dish today, (hardly any tadpoles left now) and it's a bit hard to see but it has one of the wafers in its mouth. Both tads and newts have really enjoyed these things, I'll have to keep the packet so that I can get more of the same next year! Newt Aug1 2017 by Wabi Gallery, on Flickr

Rowanberry - when I clicked on 'quote' re your newt and wafers you fed them - it came up with "this post will be posted as a sticky add attachment" so I could not quote you.
Anyway I wanted to ask you what wafers do you use in your feeding try? I think I would like to get some for my pond.

It's these ones... Hikari Sinking Algae Wafers. I think I bought mine on ebay, but there are a lot of aquarium shops sell them online too. If you've still got any tads, (all of mine seem to have grown up and left now) they really like them! images.linnlive.com/b845015e16a41a44731e8526da2c0460/1dcebe4f-7559-4e50-9b41-080c2b25071e.jpgThey are smaller than I expected, (about 1/4 of an inch, or maybe 8mm) and I would put out about a dozen at a time. The packet lasted me about a month.

Thank you. I have no frogs or newts yet, but I am thinking of putting a few small trays around the edge of the pond and hope to encourage them to use the pond instead of the ditches. Maybe even the Parr might like them?

I've heard frogs croaking yesterday and this morning around the pond- haven't seen one, but they're around and about.

Highlights for me last week (not in UK) were 3 Mediterranean Chameleons, 2 Stripeless Tree Frogs + a couple of Spanish Terrapins.
Plenty of Moorish Geckoes on buildings at night.

I came across 2 large Common Frogs today amongst some fallen leaves- at least one looked swollen with eggs. My first for the year.

That's very early! I've been keeping an eye on our pond, but nothing as of yet.
Supposedly temps are meant to drop again next week, so hopefully your two frogs will find a warm place to shelter, Aeshna!
