Can anyone help to clarify the i.d. of this beetle please? I'm thinking a Mealworm Beetle ( Tenebrio molitor) but would welcome comments from those with a greater knowledge than myself. I'm not sure of likely habitats for this species but we're having all of the carpets in our house replaced and several examples have put in an appearance since we started. They all seem to be having problems coping with the current heatwave. Thanks Dave

Looks like a common black ground beetle to me - probably Pterostichus melanarius - but I could be very wrong!

Different shots from different angles do show sharp angles on the rear of the pronotum, and also a protruding 'tooth', which I believe to be diagnostic features. Please let me know if I'm spouting rubbish! Dave

Sorry Dave - I'm not that knowledgeable I'm afraid! But what you says sounds good.
