The first one looks familiar but I cannot find it again. The second one is a Footman but I am not sure which one. Proabably Buff - but could it be Dingy?

Thanks. I have seen the Yellow-spot Tortix before but did not recognise this one as so much better marked! The Dingy Footman I was unsure of because of the colouring, but I guess it is mostly distinguishable by the shape of its wings?

Yeah P conwagana can be variable.
You're right with wing shape for the Footman, Buff is a lot more straight-edged.

Hi Liz and Nige The sharp bend to the outer edge of the wing and the date would indicate it is an Orange Footman to me. It is usually the first of the footmen on the wing and flies in May and June, the rest don't usually appear until July/August. Regards Kim

Thanks Kim, I am happy with this. Either would be first for my garden. Liz
