Can you tell me what flower this is please - did not seem to have any leave, was growing in grass by rocky shores Loch Fyne. By co-incidence a couple of days after taking this photo had supper in 'gourmet' restaurant and these flowers were strewn around the plate of food, so just wonder what it was I was eating.

It's not Chives but is an Allium cultivar.

Thanks Aeshna, it was so pretty (in the sunshine) and grows so tall, think I might try growing it. I liked the taste of the flowers too.

Thanks Aeshna, it was so pretty (in the sunshine) and grows so tall, think I might try growing it. I liked the taste of the flowers too. They are very attractive in clumps with their tall spikes of lovely pink or white flowers. They are very good at attracting insects. The only problem will Alliums is that they spread fast and quickly and before you know it they are all over your garden. If you want to avoid that it is best to cut the spikes of when the flowers have started to die off and before the seed is able to disperse. Here is a link about growing Alliums. www.saga.co.uk/magazine/home-garden/gardening/plants/bulbs/alliums.aspx#Harold.
