I noticed that this clematis has aphids living in the flower bud. Is it likely that the aphids can deformed this bud as it developed? Thanks, Tim

I couldn't say for sure that it's the aphids, but I've noticed on my own plants that the leaves and flowers can be deformed before I even realise they've got some sort of infestation. If I'm not sure what they've got, I'll spray them with a solution of water and a few drops of Ecover washing up liquid, unless I see that there are ladybirds also on the plant.

Pretty sure the feeding action of the aphids would have caused this response in the Clematis.

Thank you both for your replies. I think I'll leave the flower bud and see if it develops or if the plant gives up on it.
