I took this photo yesterday (4/5/16) on the wall of my house in Burton-on-trent, Staffordshire. I believe it to be in the genus Limonia, but am not 100% certain. Within that genus I am leaning towards sp. maculipennis, but can't find enough info to give me keys for a positive i.d. so am requesting the help of anyone who may have a specific interest in this field, or maybe just considerably more experience. Your help would certainly be appreciated. Thanks in anticipation Dave

I've changed my opinion!
The large palps rule out any Limonia species, I now think it may be Rhipidula, and maybe R.maculata, but I would appreciate any constructive comments!

I got there at last!
It's Tipula rufina.
I found a similar looking species, Tipula confusa, but it didn't quite look right, then, by looking at similar species I found a picture of T.rufina and, by looking at some of my poorer photos, taken from a different angle, I was able to see both the antennae and the distinguishing stripe along the thorax.
Perseverance does pay off!
Thanks to all who may have looked!
