Today has been (and still is at about 3:30pm) a wonderfully warm day and the heathers in the garden have been covered in bees. There are some bumblebees (I don't know the species but they have white bums), but most of the bees were these ones. I think, from looking online, they are the European Dark Honey Bee (Apis mellifera mellifera) but I'd be grateful for a confirmation from someone who knows or the correct ID. Thanks Dave PS there were loads (50 plus would be a conservative estimate) of these around the heather.

Honey Bee for sure. I wouldn't take it to sub-species, but yes A. mellifera.

Thanks, Aeshna. Am I correct in thinking they are wild honey bees?

I'm not sure that you can differentiate the as I think most in the wild probably have domestic genes.
