I don't know if news has filtered through yet but sadly Mary (Pippa) has passed away. She had a lovely sense of humour and was always cheerful with her posts and replies. That's very, very sad news. I can see her old-site avatar now. She always seemed to me a lot of fun, and for some unaccountable reason, the news has upset me more than it should do for a relative stranger! Jim

Sad news indeed my deepest condolences go out to Pippa’s nearest and dearest, it is always very sad to lose a friend and love one especially at this time of the year. Alan, Rip Pippa
Do not stand at my grave and weep I am not there I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning's hush I am the swift uplifting rush
of quiet birds in circled flight I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry; I am not there. I did not die. Mary Elizabeth Frye

Lovely words Alan - I was sent that poem when I lost my husband earlier this year and also this one -
"Each life touches this world in a way no other can, leaving not only wonderful memoires, but lasting imprints in our hearts."

NellieDee, if you are in touch with her family, please do pass on our condolences. What Alan said is true. Loosing someone dear is never easy, but this time of year is especially difficult.

Good evening everyone, Thought I really should join, or is it rejoin, the crowd! (I'm beginning feel like some kind of migrant as I try to find a new country (site) in which to settle.... ) I spent a fair while trying to raise the level of activity at 'Wild about the World' but somehow there was never the camaraderie or activity that one might hope for and now I see that's it's expired too. I also spent a while on the edge of the Facebook WAB group but I never felt comfy there so I’ve been away for the summer – away in my own garden, that is. But I’m here now looking forward to adding my own contributions; looking forward to picking your collective brains and looking forward to what is heralded as being 'one of the worst winters ever'! We shall see..... 0-0-0-0-0-0-0 And on the subject of death – a really sad note to see the demise of Pippa. I can hardly say that I 'knew her' but she was a much valued contributor in WAB whose presence and enthusiasm was always welcomed and appreciated. RIP dear lady. Age is never a problem in this kind of forum – perhaps just as well since its one of the places that are populated by many of the more senior members of our population (myself included, I might add ) but age just doesn’t matter here; if anything the older generation often have more to offer. I hope we can all continue to share our knowledge because so many youngsters show little or no interest in the wildlife of our planet – a sad reflection unfortunately. But on a brighter note and I'm delighted to find you up and running as a proper site with proper categories, proper pictures and proper people! I wish you well….

Thank you folks for your welcome - it's appreciated.
Eeyore - glad to see you here too - I can almost see you from where I am because I'm up at the top end of North Taunton and always look over to the Blackdown Hills to see if the snow is lying yet. The difference in elevation (you at around 800 feet while I'm down at about 150 feet) means that in winter, you get snow when I get rain....I'm not entirely sorry to say! And doesn't artdemole live up there in Churchinford too?
While writing there's something else I want to ask you about - possibly via PM rather than here - but I'll start here. I see that you're a keen photographer (probably therefore a good one with good equipment). I on the other hand am a raw amateur but I've bought a Nikon D3300 DSLR camera and I need some help is using it. Are you a) available to help or b) any use to ask or c) do you know where I can get help or d) anything else?
Be nice to hear from you..... Cheers Chris
