Welcome to the Wild about the British Isles! This is intended to be a (hopefully temporary) forum that will act as a stand-in for the dearly missed Wild about Britain site. It will not be as extensive, but we've tried to create as many of the most popular categories that were on the old site as we could. Please let everyone know!

In a Brave New World... with just a handful of men... (Glad to re-find the community I thought I'd lost. Well done for starting this site, whoever you are, mysterious Admin)

Hi, WABbers! ... I mean, WABIants? Overjoyed to have some kind of WAB-esque forum to cling to - been mystified for many months over WAB, which I couldn't reach when I was out the country for a while and wondered if it was a regional thing (though never quite believed it).
Doesn't look like there's many of you on here yet. But I'm sure all the regulars will find their way - Woodman, Billabong Karen, Tringa, Acipiter, Sweedie and all the rest of you.

Anyone got any ideas as to why WAB went down the tubes? It looked to me that the site had been 'hacked'. Stu (the site owner) had just before announced that he was very busy, so maybe he hasn't had time, or the inclination, to fix the site. Whoever the admin is on this site - thanks for putting it up, so us ex WABers can regroup. Jim

Hello, Jim and Monkey- and thanks so much for joining. "Admin (snowlynx)" is my best mate Dean, who is very computer savvy, (whereas I am not...at all!) and after listening to me complain for weeks about WaB disappearing he did some research and told me it wasn't difficult to set up forums these days. He's done all this for me, and if I run into any glitches he'll (hopefully) help me sort them out. I am keeping fingers crossed that we don't get the hackers and spammers that Stu had so many problems with. I know this site is still very basic at the moment- I didn't want to make it too large for us to keep up with, and I'm trying to remember all the different catagories and topics that were there originally... so many! I just realised this morning that I'd forgotten to do a section for ponds. One option I've not been able to figure out is the one where people get 'Reply to Thread' emails, which WaB did and I thought very useful... sometimes I forgot which threads I'd posted on! I'm going to have to see if this site can do that. It's a real shame about the gallery- there were so many fantastic photos on there...and all the expert advice on WaB that's been lost. It was such an invaluble resource, and I'm really, really hoping it does reappear. I don't know if Debs ever did email Stuart or not, (I think in the thread on the Olympus site she mentioned doing it) but I'd like to know why it's vanished, too. Anyway- I did want to say welcome to WaBI, and hopefully there will be others find their way here soon as well!

Some of the old WAB site has been archived on the 'Waybackmachine' site: wayback.archive.org/web/20150315215617/http://www.wildaboutbritain.co.uk/It looks like some, but not all, sub-pages are there. There is no gallery, though. Jim P.S.: I've delved deeper into the archived WAB pages. It looks like some members details are there. I might have a trawl through to see if I can get emails of those I recognise as being recent active members, and email them about this site.

Hello, Deb London here.
Thanks for the invite (which I have only just seen :-O). :-D
I am currently trying to devote myself to another forum, but I guess there is no harm being a member of two. ;-)
I shall have a look at the threads and contribute if I can.
Deb
