My first bird of the year (both by sound + sight) was Robin in the garden.
Went round couple of my local patches. If I'd stayed at home would have probably added Greenfinch but getting much harder to see these elsewhere locally. Only added House Sparrow when I got home just before it was getting dark.All from a west London suburb:

Was hoping for a decent day out today but the forecast of rain for most of the day (+ tomorrow!) put paid to that. As it was only dull this morning with light drizzle in the wind decided to pop down to the London Wetland Centre for a couple of hours. Added:
56 Mistle Thrush in my local park
At LWC;
57 Greylag 58 Egyptian Goose 59 Gadwall 60 Wigeon 61 Pintail 62 Little Grebe 63 Peregrine (perched on nearby hospital) 64 Cetti's Warbler 65 Greenfinch 66 Siskin
Missed out on Bittern, Water Rail, Sparrowhawk + Chiffchaff.

Birding is my main focus, (although it tends to take a back seat in the warmer months when I'm chasing Dragons and Butterflies) so I feel I should add my list here. I'm not a competitive lister, or even much of a twitcher, but I do keep a list, so I'll add it here.
There was a time when I'd be out on New Years Day and try to see as many species as possible, but I found it left me with nothing to focus on until March, so now I just go out and see what I see and then filling in the obvious gaps can be a project until March.
1 Little Grebe 2 Mute Swan 3 Canada Goose 4 Brent Goose 5 Mallard 6 Teal 7 Kestrel 8 Buzzard 9 Pheasant 10 Moorhen 11 Coot (heard only so far) 12 Oystercatcher 13 Lapwing 14 Curlew 15 Black-headed Gull 16 Herring Gull 17 Lesser black-backed gull 18 Wood pigeon 19 Robin 20 Blackbird 21 Redwing 22 Magpie 23 Jackdaw 24 Rook 25 Carrion Crow 26 Starling 27 House Sparrow 28 Reed Bunting 29 Goldcrest 30 Goldfinch 31 Greenfinch 32 Bullfinch

Hi Ajay I have just noticed that you have Wood Pigeon down twice at No.8 & No.18. Thanks John, I'd attempted to put two separately recorded outings into (roughly) Voous order, I really must learn to make more legible scribbles. I've taken the liberty of inserting Buzzard at No.8 before seeing one, (it's only a matter of time) as it will save me renumbering all the others.I'll let you know for definite when I do see one.
