Well, the mushrooms proved me wrong... not only did they survive the snowfall yesterday, one of them was still bravely standing upright today as the snow melted around it! Very resilient for such a small and fragile thing. Snow Shroom Jan 2021 by Wabi Gallery, on Flickr

Those are lovely ice crystal formations, Ian! The patch of mushrooms in our front garden continue to soldier on... I noticed they are keeping huddled closer to the ground now, with hardly any stalk at all. Russett Mushrooms Feb 2021 by Wabi Gallery, on Flickr

We were surprised to come upon these mushrooms growing around the base of an oak tree, (and I couldn't see the top of it because of the lower-growing hornbeams, but it appeared to be dead.) Some of them were past their sell-by date, (some have gone a bit furry) and am I right in thinking they are honey fungus? 01 Fungi July 2021 by Wabi Gallery, on Flickr 02 Fungi July 2021 by Wabi Gallery, on Flickr

I did a google search for images of them cut in half- they are a very dark purple... I never would have expected that.

Yesterday a group of 20 of us on a nature walk in a small part of Richmond Park where we identified c20 species of fungi. Most conspicuous were good numbers of Trooping Funnel & a few Clouded Funnels. Others included Sulphur Tuft, Honey Fungus, Common Puffball, Snowy Waxcap, Turkey Tail, Deceiver, Giant Polypore, Pleated Inkcap & my favourite, Yellow Fieldcap.

I really don't know, Ian... there were other larger mushrooms nearby, but they'd been quite badly damaged, (probably by dogs chasing squirrels) so I couldn't tell if it was the same sort or not. It did have a faint purplish tint to it.
