I thought it might be interesting to have a thread again as we go into autumn... there were some lovely photos last year.
I am certainly no lover of Winter, and dread seeing the nights grow longer, (the Summer Solstice is a day of mourning, as far as I'm concerned!) but I do love the dramatic changes in the colours of the trees.
I've always really liked this combination of red, green and gold... sycamores do it the best.

Beautiful colour but it isn't a Sycamore which never has those acutely pointed lobes on the leaves. It's actually the closely related Norway Maple which is often naturalised + can spread as efficiently.

My fault- there are several London Planes in a nearby street, and I just presumed the leaf was from the same sort of tree! Thanks.

The changing face of Autumn. Some trees have lost their leaves already, some still green. Others getting their Autumn colours, but dropping their leaves almost immediately Autumn Oct 2018 by Helen Skelton, on Flickr

That's the trouble with autumn, I think... it's all too brief. I wish the crisp, clear blue skies and colours could last a little longer before winter's starkness moves in. I photographed these yesterday, and they're dropping their leaves today.

Lovely Virginia Creeper colours. I have a lot of this in my back garden which was present when we moved here over 20 years ago. It is an aggressive thug but looks splendid when like this. When mine has dropped the leaves there will be a lot of cutting back as it does smother shrubs so quickly again.

Here's one for the colour and one for ID I think the colourful ones are cherry? most of the colour so far this year seems to be on the floor The others seem to be spreading from Sainsbury's car park boundary hedge ian Autumn leaves by ian robinson, on Flickr by ian robinson, on Flickr

Agree the red leaves are Cherry. Field Maple in the lower shot.

So lovely but has only taken a few days for the leaves to drop, the heavy winds have striped the upper half of the trees bare. At times it looked like a blizzard of gold. Problem now, as always, Gutters blocked, water filters blocked and the garden covered with leaves - can't even see our road surface. It would be nice to crunch through, but all sodden. Love the photos treehugger. Where were you? My sort of scenery, a few look familiar almost as if I have been there.

Very nice treehugger I'm jealous of the rocky streams and embankments running water you can straddle is a bit rare in my neck of the woods ian

I do hope everybody is seeing as much colour where you are as I am here this autumn, driving down some of the back lanes to my favourite walks and the hedge rows are a delight absolutely popping 'wish I had a dash cam' The colours in the little wood over the road from where I live are the best I can remember for a long time the Oaks are a beautiful russet brown, yellow and bordering on orange, mix in the beach and others and it's a real treat. I'm just hoping we get some more sunshine to show them off and the forecast winds don't blow all the leaves off the trees so I can get out with the camera ian
