I went out hoping for some good light from the setting sun on one of the snow covered hills. Unfortunately this did not pan out, but the Moon looked good. Taken with a zoom lens at 300mm on a camera with a 1.5 crop factor and then heavily cropped in the editing too. Dave

Nice shot. I've been struggling to get a decent image lately because of the amount of cloud.

Really nice photo. I like the dark blue better than the traditional black sky usually seen in moon shots.

Thanks. It was taken a little before 5:30 pm so was still quite light and the sky was blue. In processing I tried to get better contrast to highlight the craters and the rays and this has made the sky a darker blue.

Thanks. Getting reasonable photos of the moon is fairly straightforward. Even a crescent moon is bright, and shows great shadows.
I now use a DSLR and the shot above is probably as far as I can push it with a 300mm lens and cropping, but one of my best shots of the moon was with my previous camera - a Panasonic FZ28. This is a bridge camera and I'm fairly confident in saying bridge camera technology has moved on quite a bit since this camera.
Any other Moon shots, folks?

That is a good shot,Ayjay. Even at full there is still a lot of detail. Waht was the setup?

As I said, too much cloud around but here's one I did earlier (January) and a recent one focusing on the clouds - pleased a bit of detail evident in the moon still!

Not a close up but was trying to get the pink glow around the moon which was slightly showing on the clouds, it was a very frosty night so maybe that was what was making the pink glow? 20150928_3 by Helen Skelton, on Flickr

That is a good shot,Ayjay. Even at full there is still a lot of detail. Waht was the setup? Dave That was a digiscoped effort - Canon A95 and a Zeiss 65mm scope - taken at 22.59 on 4/11/2006.

Thanks Ayjay. If your scope is anything like mine then that is really good shot. The field of view on my scope is small and I have enough difficulty finding the moon visually, never mind trying to get a photo of it too.

While I did get a shot of the full moon last night during a clear spell, as usual it's rather flat. Still hooked on the moonlight/cloud interaction so here's last nights offering. Alf

Love the rainbow effects Alf. Sorry about the poor quality of my mobile phone camera.. but here I have managed to get a rare shot of the full moon and the sun together! :-) Full Moon by Wabi Gallery, on Flickr

Dave I use my scope a lot, (that probably makes a difference) but it's got a good field of view so not too hard to find things in it. If yours is an angled scope you could try rigging up a "cable tie sight", ( Google it) They're supposed to work quite well.
