Just an aside comment - Facebook, as it does, has come up with a memory from the past I posted 6 years ago. It could apply now - obviously same sort of weather then. On 9 April 2010 "OK so we have 4 daffodils, has Spring finally arrived?"
At least the daffodils have now opened - don't know how long they will last with the frosty mornings and snow on the hills.

Here in Gairloch the Larch are doing quite well, hawthorn isn't in full leaf but getting there. Two I have seen that seem to be a bit slow are Rowan (buds are just about breaking) and Wych Elm (which is a hardy tree) and is not showing any growth in the buds yet.

Three months after the start of this topic, I'm hoping for some signs of summer, but it's not happened yet.

The goat willow here is starting to look as if it is starting to green, but not a sign on any of the other trees. Could not believe the difference from one side of hills to the other. Yesterday drove to St Andrews - it is all green over there, trees with their leaves green grass lots of flowers in bloom - hey what about us! yep I know it is snowing!

It was actually warm and sunny today, (no sleet or hailstones) and I'm getting the urge to buy bedding plants. Good way to celebrate May Day, I think.

Had the same thought yesterday but my wife reminded me that there was still frost on the grass and the bird baths were solid!

I thought Spring was slow in showing itself here, but at least there is Lesser Celandine, Primroses, Daffodil, Wood Anemone, Pansies and some of the trees are contemplating coming into leaf. Well yesterday after usual shopping trip to Oban, daughter decided we would do a detour and drive through the glen around Stronmilchan - Nothing, well a few daffodils and the odd bit of lesser celandine showing, but grass still brown, some trees showing they might be getting buds. We found it amazing what the enclosure of hills/glens can do to the weather, at one end you have Oban with trees green, lots of flowers in bloom (and it was relatively sunny) and the other end (us) signs of Spring showing, gosh even the grass is beginning to show through the moss, and then in the middle nothing but winter browns. Glad I don't live in the middle.

What a difference a few days of sunshine makes, trees are getting leaves and flowers bursting forth, so pleased all the bugle is coming up, and so many insects - wonderful and overjoyed at seeing first butterfly a peacock and it looks in good health.
