Since we've not gotten around to creating a Wildlife Art section, I'll put this here for now. This is a painting I did of the fox that comes into our garden, done from photos I've taken of him over the past few months... it's acrylic on board.

That's wonderful especially as you know the subject, I am afraid you won't be seeing any of my paintings - I really don't paint!

I think you could have a go at painting some of your water voles, Shirl!
Ayjay, I don't paint nearly as much as I should...every year, I made resolutions to do at least one a month; this year I've managed two. I really must try harder.

Here's a watercolour of snow buntings. You may say snow buntings don't look like this, but for some reason they did on this occasion. (I don't know how to make it bigger [should you wish to see it bigger]) Very different from that splendid fox! Snow buntings landscape by Wabi Gallery, on Flickr

Lovely painting rowanberry. I wish I were as artistic.
Faith that's a beautiful painting. The joy of art is you paint what you see, the snow buntings were as you saw them.
Fantastic work both of you.

Thanks for the kind comments, everyone!
I really like your snow buntings, Faith...watercolour is a medium I've struggled with- it allows a more natural, spontaneous feel to a painting, I think.

I can honestly say they would not look like water voles! I need to stick to photos I am afraid.
Faith - lovely water colour of the Snow Buntings Shirl

I have only taken up watercolour quite recently – it is, as you suggest, pretty tricky, but worth persevering with. Before that I had always used gouache which, like acrylics, is very forgiving! Made a mistake? Just paint over it! They say with watercolour you should 'plan like a tortoise, paint like a hare' which I have found to be very true.

Some nice paintings in the images. I use acrylics in my woodcraft and polymer clay crafts. Even painted just a shapes for an image for my local photography fortnightly theme.

Lovely artwork. Thanks for sharing. I've never found anything easy to work with, so admire any materials used to create something that the artist has seen. Great work. WABI needs more of this.

Sturkling- I'm surprised about that, because you draw beautifully. I had a look at your Sturkling Diaries forum, and saw that you use Letraset Promarkers- those can't be the easiest things to work with, (for me, brushes fill in and blend so much easier than markers do.) You said that your library contains books by other comic book artists... have you seen 'Bloom County' by Berkeley Breathed? His old ones still make me laugh! 4.bp.blogspot.com/-j0_UiuzyF84/VZMSaa6ko4I/AAAAAAAAFGw/DwPfhfBhdRw/s1600/fav_strip1_full.jpg

I've been watching 'Landscape Artist Of The Year' on Sky Arts for the last few weeks and was encouraged by how even the more professional artists struggle with the various materials they use. Struggling to capture an image, not finding the right colour matches, changing the image because it wasn't as intended, buckling under timescales...... It always seemed to me that regardless of the medium used, the challenges of getting the image as the artist intends it to be, is always the hardest part. That cartoon made me laugh out loud!!! Sad to say that I have not seen this work before. I am definurkly gonna look Berkeley up!!! Thanks so much for the tip.
