What a coincidence - I could not sleep last night so put the radio on - picked up some odd station and all they were playing was Pink Floyd. Cannot get digital radio up here and can only get radio 2, except at night when all sorts of odd stations blow in and out, usually Russia or America all on the same wavelength, radio 2 kicks in again around 4 in the morning.

You probably heard Pink Floyd on Radio 2 as well then as they were featured on Tracks of my Years just before mid-day. Always enjoy this feature hearing what different singers select. Other track was good too- Paul Simon with Diamonds on the soles of her shoes

Pink Floyd were too progressive for my taste back in the day, however since David Gilmour influence came more to the fore I can now appreciate their work. Nonetheless I am now listening to... Dave Edmunds, the Gretsch guitar solo is by Brian Setzer of the Stray Cats. There are also several versions of both these two songs in which the second is probably done better by Chuck Berry, however I do like the sound of the accordion in this version. The race is on www.youtube.com/watch?v=PU1dY2lV2gMDave Edmunds / Geraint Watkins on accordion The Promised Land www.youtube.com/watch?v=EIIoWFnsc6w

I think this guy may have had a difficult breakup hope it doesn't offend anybody I thought it was funny ian That could easily be referring to one of my previous landlords, and several employers.
I stumbled across this on Youtube a few months back, and listened to it again this morning. No idea what it's about (the title means 'Lottery') but it's a catchy tune and I like it. Panos Vlachos is a Greek actor and musician.

I've been out of this thread for a while and have missed out. Always good to hear Dave Edmunds and some excellent accordion. Makes me think I need to listen to some Clifton Chenier. A good one from Panos Vlachos too. Here are a couple of my favourites, one from a good while ago and one from 60 years ago. I have been listening to all the ones I missed too Dave, and I must say the high standard has not slipped one little bit, so my thanks to go out to everyone. However, I may about to change all that has Gilbert and Sullivan is not everyone’s cup of tea, but I am afraid this is what often happens when one mixes with geeks during my little owl studies of which I will expand on later,) although I seem to be slowly converted into an anorak too which is probably far worse, even though it is highly enjoyable which is really quite worrying at the same time. The Mikado - the list Nevertheless it may surprise the listener to know I have a little list too, but then again maybe not, but unfortunately it is also one of those songs that keep going through one’s mind whilst creeping very slowly through the shrubberies, – I’ve got him on the list, I’ve got him on the list there’s none of them be missed. www.youtube.com/watch?v=TW_Ukl71OH4However the content of the list is performed differently each time depending on the particular actor, as indeed is the following, although the language is somewhat more explicit for those of a sensitive nature I should warn. Eric idle www.youtube.com/watch?v=A-_m6EZ1SUkElla Fitzgerald Embraceable you

As always some excellent songs. The two 'Mikado' ones are superb, Alan.

I am learning, having bought machine and programme, to convert my hundreds of old tapes from the 50s to the 70s - getting there:) It made me remember just how tedious it was playing my LPs and 45s to record them on to tape. Mind you then I had to have the tape recorder really close to the record player and stop it ever time I changed the record, sneeze or someone came into the room. This time I can just put the tape in the machine and record it to my PC, then on to CD. Well that is the theory.
