Took this Kingfisher on Sat 22-8-2015, it breifly landed on this perch which was a fair way out in the lake even for my 600mm lens, still cant have it all your own way, it was taken with a Canon EOS 70D with Sigma 150 - 600mm sports version lens which is my new set up, I am happy with its results as detail is very good on most closer shots and not bad on distant ones, I would of liked to of had this one much closer as even the 600mm struggled and left the image still looking tiny in the frame so had to crop in a bit...anyway thought I would share it with you, its by far my clearest Kingfisher shot to date. Settings: Focal length 600mm ISO 320 Shutter speed 1/800 sec Aperture F/9.0

This is an absolutely stunning photograph. I've never been that close to a kingfisher- only seen glimpses of them at a distance from a hide, so the best I've ever managed has been what looks like an iridescent turquoise blur on a twig! Such beautiful little birds.

Such beautiful little birds. Thanks, most of my previous attempts were the same dull, distant and blurry but luckily in the last few weeks I have seen quite a few of them at my favourite nature reserve, but this one was right place right time, would have to be very lucky to have it happen again...
