I had a Speckled Wood today as well flitting in a small sunlit area by a tree in a garden.

Went to Hickling Broad today. Far from ideal weather for butterflies with strong blustery winds + plenty of cloud but punctuated with sunny bits.
My first Swallowtail was a brief sighting over the reeds from the hide. As we left the hide one was nectaring on a mustard on the path giving great views + another on a nearby Yellow Iris. Saw at least 6 well in the end.
Bonus was a Wall but missed the Painted Ladies there. A bit of an invasion of these starting now with quite a few reported in London today + my partner saw one in our garden while I was in Norfolk.

Female Common Blue seen at the allotment now. Hoping for the pitter-patter of little prolegs in the near future.

A glorious couple of hours at Bison Hill in the Chilterns today. Generally common species like whites + vanessids were absent. The widespread species were represented by good numbers of Small Heath, Common Blue + Brimstone + at least 15 Brown Argus. More local werea good dozen or more Dingy Skippers, 3 or 4 Grizzled Skipper, 5 Green Hairstreak + eventually after we'd almost given up 2 Duke of Burgundy; one in excellent condition posing on a buttercup.
BOTD is a toss up between the rare Duke + quite a few Small Blues at Totternhoe. Several of these were enjoying the unsavoury delights of dung!
Just seen Pete has posted a photo of one of the Small Blues!

Toss up between a fresh Painted Lady on the path in front of me at Pagham + later a couple of male Silver-studded Blues at Acres Down in the New Forest.

Only one butterfly yesterday but it was a new one for the year, a very flighty Marbled White at Moulden Hill CP.
