I know this may be controversial to some here but i really don't like this guy. Sure he is very knowledgeable but i dislike the way he gets all the credit for the TV shows that attach his name and i'm pretty sure his researchers and camera crew feel pretty much the same way i do and that is why at the end of his shows we get to see who does the real work. Anyway, that's not the point of this post. I just read an article, read it here www.globalcitizen.org/en/content/david-attenborough-spoon-of-sugar-bees/ and he, Attenborough, gives this advice, "If you find a tired bee in your home, a simple solution of sugar and water will help revive an exhausted bee,” he continued. “Simply mix two tablespoons of white, granulated sugar with one tablespoon of water, and place on a spoon for the bee to reach." Now i am no expert but i have been feeding Wasps now for a few years [im not crazy i'm autistic ] and to begin with i too was using granulated sugar until i noticed [within the first 2 hours] that granulated sugar is hard to dissolve and was sticking to the Wasps, mainly their legs, which was causing some distress and and a great deal of effort on the Wasps part to try to get the sugar off. So imagine a Bee who is 'tired' getting granulated sugar on its legs and the energy it would take for it to remove it...it would probably be the end of that Bee. So if you want to feed Bees/Wasps you should use soft sugar as this dissolves much more`easily and therefore doesn't get attached to legs etc...end of rant

Ahh Sir David -------- I know what you mean but I do think he gives credit to others in the team and between them they've created programmes that will last forever as for the bee if it's down and out it's probably at the end of it's busy life and a quick squish might bee best ian

I can see nothing wrong with having controversial views, and I can see no reason why one should not be allowed to air them as long as one as good intentions and the subject concerned is about animal welfare, in other words ‘do no harm’. There are also some very knowledgeably people in the media world but even these have been known to be wrong on occasions including Sir David Attenborough, and yes more than once. Unfortunately there are some where being wrong has led to a serous accidents, has there are always those whom think they know best and know it all.
It is also correct to say that quite a bit of their knowledge has been gathered from researchers having done the leg work first as already stated, I should know I often meet them at the farmers meetings, and after dinner speeches in which some of their views and are really quite laughable being completely lost without the help of the researchers, not to mention some of their behaviour which is simply appalling at times, but not Sir David I hasten to add. It would seem some of these so called experts often have two personas driven by financial reward no doubt, including one particular person who told someone simply wanting an autograph where to go in no uncertain terms! I could say more but I unlike them I have certain ethics which seems to be an old fashion stance to take in this day and age.

Several summers ago a storm blew up following what had been a warm sunny morning.
The sudden cloud cover and temperature drop caught out the honey bees who had been feeding on our potted sunflowers... I found them huddled together on a flower centre, all wet and bedraggled. I put a small piece of kitchen roll in the bottom of a jar (to help dry them) and coaxed the bees into it; then I smeared a drop of organic honey on a marigold blossom and dropped it in the bottom of the jar with them- in about an hour, once they'd warmed up and dried off I found the bees all clustered around the marigold eating the honey with great enthusiasm!
After the rain stopped and the sun came out again, I opened the jar and they flew off without any difficulty.
