Taking a wander on shore at Arasaig, realised that in dips or holes in the sand were these minuscule insects, obviously a breeding time for them. Don't know if they were emerging from under the sand where a dip or hole in the sand had been made. found it fascinating and wonder what the insect is. Can't really see much detail but possibly springtails of some sort? Certainly not confident about this.

They were miniscule, to see any detail I would probably have needed to use a microscope. The sand fly you can see near bottom left was less than 4mm. I just wondered if this trend of emerging from a sand hole was particular one sort of sand insect. I did try using the macro on my camera and they barely looked bigger, which is why I did a video. I made the assumption that they were emerging as there were no trails of them leading to the edge of the holes, though there were some sort of speckled outwith the holes.
