I had to go near to Kenilworth this afternoon so took the chance to call into the Abbey Pool for the Whooper Swan that has been there for a few days. It was easy to see as it was only about ten feet from the bankside.

A friend sent me a message telling me that both a Caspian Gull and a female Mandarin Duck was less than half a mile from my house on Stoke Floods, Coventry. Needless to say that I loaded up and was on site within 10 minutes. The Mandarin Duck was feeding with the Mallards and the Gull was sitting motionless on a pontoon way out in the lake.
From here I followed my mate to the nearby Longford Park as there had been a few Ring-necked Parakeets that had been seen a few times over the past few days. Sure enough as we got out of the car two could be heard and within minutes they were spotted in a nearby tree to the car park.
63. Mandarin Duck 64. Caspian Gull 65. Ring-necked Parakeet.

John may I ask if you use any particular software to compile your list on or just the old fashioned way 'note book and pencil' ? I ask because I looked at some software some months back and it was way overly complicated and finding where to tick birds off on your list even a blackbird was a pain, so that got binned. Just something simple will do. Perhaps I should just start a list on a new word document. I've never done a year or life list before and like every body else here I must have seen so many different birds over the years, good job my memory's still intact ian

Hi Ian
I had an Microsoft Access data base created for me by a mate many years ago. Most goes into my notebook but all goes onto my data base. I'm no good at creating data bases myself but if you know anyone that can use Access they should be able to create you one.
The beauty of this data base is when I find a bird that is not listed you can add that bird easily.
