We are still on holiday in the West Lake District and every night in the field opposite the camp site we have a Barn Owl hunting from around 9pm - really wonderful

Been a while since I've seen a Kestrel hovering for food. And driving home yesterday one made a swift attack on some prey.

Some House Sparrows in the back garden this morning. I think it's the first time I've seen any here this year.

Yesterday at a friends house not far away had 3 Red Kite c20ft above our heads. We were having a BBQ, I'm guessing the sensed the meat!

From this lunchtime my first Quail of the year. Only heard it as it was buried in a wheat field.

I've only heard them in the UK but seen them abroad. My first flew past me in Eilat + then saw it on the ground + also accidentally flushed some while on horseback in Kazakhstan.

Yeah I've only seen the one, and that was very brief as it skulked around at Crayford Marsh! Have heard a few since then, but never had decent views.

A bit unexpected this lunchtime, I was out looking for Duke of Burgundys when I was distracted by a Quail singing! 2 in 2 days now, and in different counties Still couldn't see it though, so BotD seen goes to the 6 Red-legged Partridge showing nicely. Nige

At Denbies today watched a Red Kite flying low over the hillside when a Kestrel started mobbing it. The former turned upside down several times with talons facing the Kestrel. Later we found they were breeding but good to watch the inter-action at close quarters.
Other highlight was a Marsh Tit in the woods.

Plenty of racket in the back garden this morning with Starlings feeding. Going through the fatballs like crazy now. Good job they like the PoundStretcher ones - 50 for £4.50!! Nige
