Pochard for me today. There were 5 on a pond where I was working today (never seen more than a pair here before + usually none)- initially they were all dozing but an hour or so later I watched a pair mating when a second drake trying to get in on the action joined by a male Tufted Duck. After one Pochard drake kept chasing the other drake Pochard. Not sure if the Tufted Duck was just interestedin joining the fracas or had serious intent on mating with the Pochard. Though not common, Tufted Duck x Pochard is one of the regularly encountered wild bird hybrids in the UK.

This Carrion Crow came to check us out whilst we were having a picnic today. Not one to be messed with, I'd say!

small flock of honking birds (geese?) circling overhead. Not sure if they are a local flock bored of their lake or on a longer journey. Local urban seagulls seemed as surprised as I was

This morning it would have to be the jays doing one of their courtship rituals, what I call 'flirty flying'. They chase one another carrying monkey nuts in their beaks, dropping and picking them up again, and offering them to each other. I wish I could get photos of them doing it, but they are so quick at it I've not been able to manage it yet.

Sadly I missed a pair of Cranes with a chick seen by some of my group.

A few hours with Pete Collins in the Chilterns today.Nice to see Red Kite + Buzzard overhead + so much warbler song, especially Garden Warblers of which there were about 5 singing + 2 were uncharacteristically sat out in the open. Pete did take some photos.
Also a male Bullfinch + a couple of Yellowhammers were good to see.

Lots of swallows here at the moment and when I was looking through what I'd got on the camera that I thought this guy looked less than pleased! "Oh no! Not that bloke with the camera again!"
