I looked under Common Darter and Brown Hawker but don't seem to tie in to these so I would appreciate and ID Take at the side of Loch Nell there were 3 of them 2 mating and this one sat on a stone next to me Darter1 by Helen Skelton, on Flickr

The extensive black along the abdomen + lack of yellow on the black legs are suggestive of what was known as Highland Darter. Thanks to recent DNA work this is no longer considered a valid species but is in fact now considered just a form of Common Darter, so you were close.
Brown Hawker is much larger, brown bodied with amber wings + isn't found in most of Scotland + nowhere near the Highlands. Also won't perch like this on the ground- more likely to hang from a bush or tree.
