While walking some woods with a rather up and down down landscape lots of damp hollows great for mushrooms. I noticed absolutely dozens of half inch frogs and toads the most I've seen in one place for a long time and I was thinking a little late in the year for small frogs and toads? One of the delights of these woods with the steep sided hollows is spring, early summer when the rhododendrons flower. The sides are just cascades of colour. ian

All of our little ones have dispersed about a month ago- perhaps the ones you saw just had a late start, if their pond was in shade? Ours is shaded until late spring, and our frogs tend to spawn later than those in Scotland!
