It appears to have been a good year for Parasol mushrooms. I have seen about 10 in a fairly small area. Unfortunately, as this shot shows, some people seem unable to leave them alone. I assume it is an example of fear and dislike of anything that looks different. Dave

Had to give the bloke who comes here to help me with 'heavy duty' garden and land a ticking off lesson - caught him smashing up any fungi he came across. He said "have to they are bad for plants".

I've come across this sort of thing as well... a lovely, very large fairy ring in a small woodland nearby- but when I went back to photograph it, it had all been trampled. I often find clusters of mushrooms that have been destroyed... I don't get it. Ok, in the case of Nellie's misinformed gardener he thinks he's doing a good thing because they're growing in a garden... but why trash ones growing in the woods?

Found these in a very dark spot at the bottom of an old railway cottage garden the other day, very short I thought for parasols ian shaggy parasol by IAN ROBINSON, on Flickr
