Before getting to the real subject of this post can anyone tell me why, despite owning almost a whole thicket of guides, I still find it virtually impossible to identify a moth with which I am unfamiliar? Could I just be distinguishing feature blind, or simply stupid? You may have guessed by now that I have failed in another attempt to identify an unfamiliar moth. I found this one resting on brickwork next to a Clematis in early evening sunlight. Length as pictured, and therefore forewing length was (very approximately) 10mm. Help appreciated...
