A reminder to anyone who fancies taking a photo of the Milky Way that all of this week is a good time.
Today, the Moon sets at about 5:30pm, about 90 minutes before the Sun and doesn't rise again until after 2am tomorrow. By Saturday it sets about 45 minutes after the Sun but is only a very thin waxing crescent.
This time of year is possibly the best to see the brightest part of the Milky Way, as seen from the UK.
Here is hoping for some clear skies.

There was small amount of clear sky tonight and I managed to get the attached. I should really have gone somewhere darker but I was lucky enough to get a meteor too. Dave I must work on my processing.

What a brilliant photo - would make a nice screen saver. Unfortunately here it is still heavy cloud and raining so did not even get to see the Aurora that was supposed to be seen last night.

Thanks Helen. I was quite lucky as it clouded over later on. I saw photos of the Aurora, during the weather forecast this morning, on BBC Breakfast. Unfortunately I did not see any last night. I have a shot taken very close to the direction of one of the photos shown this morning but there is no trace of the Lights. However, my photo was taken around 9:30pm so perhaps I was too early.
