Hi Can anyone help with an i.d. for this Tortrix moth? A couple of times I thought I had it, but I keep changing my mind. It's most annoying, as this is the first moth this year that I've had to ask for help with! I'm leaning towards Clepsis spectrana - The Cyclamen Tortrix. Thanks in advance Dave

I'm leaning towards Light Brown Apple Moth.

Thanks aeshna5.
This was one of my previous considerations. Is there anything other than the 'jizz' that has led you to this consideration?
Almost every image I can find of the Cyclamen Tortrix shows evidence of 'spots' in the centre of the forewing, as seen in my picture, whereas the LBAM (to use the vernacular) does not seem to display this trait. This is what led me to my conclusion.
I have photos (not very good, admittedly) from various other angles. Are there any 'distinctive' or definitive features you know of that might lead to a resolution (other than a genetic profile)?

I don't claim to be an expert on micros but your image looked similar to some I'd seen labelled as female LBAM. Would be good to hear from some of the other regular mothers.

Aeshna5,
I've been in touch with the Staffordshire County Moth Recorder and he is of the opinion that it is a female C. spectrana. If you would like his reasoning I can post it.
Regards
Dave

For what it's worth....
here it is
'On balance I think this is a female spectrana. It has a slightly concave Costa distally indicating a female (males are convex). It also has a dark spot-like stigma which postvittana doesn't show. '

Thanks for that Dave. Will have to try + remember that feature regarding the spotty stigma.
