I was out checking on the spawn today, and was surprised to see a newt come up for air... I went and got the camera and took this extremely bad photo, (discovered later it was completely on the wrong setting) and a few minutes later saw two surface at the same time. I hope the hornwort starts growing quickly, because as it is at the moment there isn't much cover for the spawn that should start hatching soon! Newt Apr11 2018 by Wabi Gallery, on Flickr

The sun came out today for the first time in well over a week, and this fellow seemed to be enjoying it. Frog Apr 14 by Wabi Gallery, on Flickr

The newts are keeping busy... I just hope they are not eating ALL of the tadpoles. i give myself a bad back hanging over the pond trying to get a photograph of them, but I do find them fascinating little creatures. Newt Apr22 18 by Wabi Gallery, on Flickr

Quite a few small young frogs in the pond today, and saw this rather spotty newt gliding amongst the hornwort.

Lovely photos:) How come you get clear photos? Mine have the reflecting water so look like they have been taken in the water and not very clear.

Lovely photos:) How come you get clear photos? Mine have the reflecting water so look like they have been taken in the water and not very clear. I think it's just luck, really! The light has to be just right, else I can't see them at all. Since the pond is mainly in the shade, it needs to be a bright day, but with the sun going down else I get nothing but reflection, too. Most of my newt photos are taken late-ish afternoon... I've tried taking photos of them earlier, but it comes out just a big glare. Once I tried using a brolly to cut out the reflection, but of course that scared them to death and they all dived to the bottom.

Not seen any of the Tadpoles, however did see tiny frog/toad but could not get photo. I say frog/toad because I am puzzled this was a pale olive green colour. I say could not get photo because as I was bending down to get a good shot a young lad came leaping across in front of me to see what I was looking at - scream!

This absolutely tiny froglet... could have easily fit upon a 5p coin, sitting on top of one of the fringed water lily leaves today.
