Nice Speckled Bush-cricket, Britnik.
Finally caught up with Red-veined Darters in central London today for the year. This is the third season they've been recorded here + have been present for about 3 weeks with up to 6 or so seen. My last attempt to seem them failed as it clouded up with a blustery breeze the week before last.
Today very warm + sunny + after seeing just Black-tailed Skimmers + a couple of Emperors connected with an active male.Beautiful deep red dragonfly. I then found a pair in cop with the male leading the female around as she released her eggs.

The Meligethes are back! I know they're an agricultural pest (attracted here by the oil seed rape in nearby fields) and easy to miss at just a couple of mm long, but I do find them rather cute - tiny beetles with "deely boppers". Here's one I found on an allium this morning...

Plenty of dragonflies at Thursley today with large numbers of Keeled Skimmers +4-spotted Chasers. At the Moat Pond an Emperor, 2 Brown Hawkers + probably a brief sighting of a Downy Emerald. Also in the bogs a couple of teneral Black Darters, Large + Small Red Damselflies + Emerald Damselflies.
Other than Odonata + Lepidoptera highlights included Mottled Grasshopper, Gorse Shieldbug + the scarce beefly, Thyridanthrax fenestratus.
Going back via Godalming it was great to watch about 10 active Beautiful Demoiselles + also 3 Banded Demoiselles- surely our most stunning insects!

Yesterday my partner spotted a longhorn beetle I hadn't seen before on a Creeping Thistle at Bookham. When I got home I could see it was a scarce species Stictoleptura scutellata.
Nearby was a mating pair of the much more familiar longhorn, Rutpela maculata.
As we left by the station we encountered a single Hornet.

My first Southern Hawkers today of the season, both by woods.
Also interesting was watching a Comma mobbing a Brown Hawker that entered its territory + then for the latter to chase the butterfly. I observed this in a couple of locations + was fascinating to watch. Could be a death wish for the Comma!
