Not a happy bunny! Went into one of the wooded areas yesterday to be met by a swarm of insects, larger than midge, and much smaller than cleggs. So cannot think what they were - they did not bite. Appeared to be white or grey.
I did not expect to see any insects as the weather is still very cold and any laying water is frozen. There again I could be wrong as my gardener did mention that the midge were out - did not believe him.

We've had a couple of ladybirds turning up inside for a few weeks now must have been in the air vents and a week ago the wife brought in a queen white tailed bumble bee with the washing, today however it was honey bees on the gorse flowers ian

After the weekend's freeze + snow it was good to feel some warmth in the sun this afternoon, though the temperature was at zero first thing.
I got home early this afternoon + there was a queen Bombus terrestris nectaring on Ericas in a pot while a male Anthophora plumipes had obviously survived + was behaving territorially.

The only sign of insects here is the house spiders are starting to appear and bought in with the logs for the fire were about 20 ants, so they must be about the wood shed.

First one I've seen this year (there'll be many more to follow!) a drain fly (Psychodidae). Not the most loved of insects but they are cute! DSCF8159 by Alf Parker, on Flickr Alf

Just so pleased. saw 6 Buff-tailed Bumblebees to day. Really saddened that I only saw a few last year and they were very small. I was not expecting to see ant again this year, after the dreadful weather we have been having up here. But these guys look big and healthy. Buff-tailed Bumblebee 2018 by Helen Skelton, on Flickr

This bee, so giddy on horsechestnut nectar that it couldn't fly... it just kept wallowing around in the flowers, and nearly fell off several times while I was trying to get this photo. Bee on Horsechestnut May2018 by Wabi Gallery, on Flickr

That's a good one Ian. I haven't seen one for ages but look forward to the next encounter with something that, when flying, sounds like it has just been wound up.

A cinnabar moth while out with the dog this morning. Unfortunately I couldn't get a shot of it.
